Fun activity for hiking kids: Paint Chips

Paint chip cards.
Generally, exploring and discovery is enough for kids, but sometimes even they can grow bored with that and become restless. Remember that they naturally have shorter attention spans than adults.

Fortunately, there are lots of tried and true activities you can do on the trail that’ll keep kids from getting bored. Among them is Paint Chips.

The next time you go to a hardware store, have your child collect some of the paint chips for green hues. During your hike, bring a paint chip and see if your child can find any of the chip’s hues in plants along the trail. During autumn, you can expand the paint chip colors to include yellows, oranges, reds, browns and grays.
