Your preteen son won’t go hiking. He says it’s “old-fashioned” and that no one does it anymore.
What should you say to him?
Well, hiking hardly is “old fashioned”! Consider these numbers:
g About 40 million Americans hiked or backpacked in 2010, according to the Outdoor Industry Association’s annual “Outdoor Recreation Participation Study.”
g There are more than 300 hiking clubs in the United States.
g National parks units reported 281.3 million total visitors during 2010; a number of them took at least short strolls on park system trails.
