What not to bring on a day hike with kids

Leave the soda at home, no on the hiking trail. Photo

Avoid soda and other caffeinated beverages, alcohol, and energy pills.

The caffeine will dehydrate children as well as you. Alcohol has no place on the trail; you need your full faculties when making decisions and driving home.

Energy pills essentially are a stimulant and like alcohol can lead to bad calls if an emergency arises. If you’re tired, get some sleep and hit the trail another day.
