A trip to Voyageurs National Park can be an educational experience for kids – though they may be having too much fun to even notice that they’re learning!
The park delivers a variety of great activities that children can participate in from spring through autumn. Among the many offerings:
• Junior Ranger Kids – Kids between the ages of 5-12 can become a Junior Ranger. They’ll first need to complete a Junior Ranger booklet (free at any park visitor center) then they can receive a Junior Ranger badge and certificate. Three different booklets are offered based on age.
• Discovery Packs – Free backpacks with a Voyageur Field Guide, telescope, pH strips, journal, three-legged race Velcro straps, scavenger hunt cards, magnifying glass, rock samples, and more can be checked out (and returned) at any visitor center to help kids and families explore the park together. Kids who check back in their pack receive a free Discovery Pack patch. Binoculars also can be checked out.
• Kids’ Art Show – Kids PreK-6 can create artwork that is displayed annually during April’s National Park Week at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. Check online for the yearly theme.
